I’ve been an avid reader since I was a little girl. One of my fondest memories is reading the Encyclopedia Brown books with my dad. Together, we would try to solve the mystery. Since that time, my love for books has blossomed. All through school and on into adulthood, you would never see me without a book somewhere close by. They have always been my escape.
A couple years ago, I updated Facebook with a status that said, “I wish I could get paid to read.” An author friend of mine, C.G. Powell, saw it and commented that I actually could! She told me about proofreaders. Little did I know this was something I was already doing, I just hadn’t taken it into the literary world. At work, my co-workers would constantly bring me their documents, emails, ect. to check for errors. I was already proofreading!
In January of this year, C.G. took a chance on me, and let me proofread Miss Fortune. Since then I’ve added a few more books under my belt and have some others in the works. I want to continue to gain experience and grow as a proofreader. I feel the best way to do this is to keep my price low as I learn. Right now, I charge $1.00 per page (250 words). You can contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or find me on Facebook as K Smith Proofs.
